When you see commercial brands, finding interesting research articles, or hear about recent news, you have certain opinions towards them, right? What if you could express those opinions in a survey and earn some money?
Answering surveys is one of the simplest ways to make money as a side gig. It’s easy and doesn’t take much time. You can participate in a survey between commercials when you are watching TV or when you are waiting for the soup to heat up for tonight’s dinner. What you make is not big, but it adds up little by little, and you’ll find you’ve saved up quite a bit before you know it.

YouGov is a leading global research data and analytics company. They currently operate market research and opinion polls in 40 countries. They are the most trusted in the industry, and many universities and companies rely on YouGov for their research projects.
YouGov is only possible because of dedicated participants (like you and me!) from around the world. They value our opinions. Therefore, they reward us with money for participating in their research. A lot of their surveys are sophisticated yet fun to answer.

How to make money with YouGov
Here is how to make money with YouGov.
- Sign up with YouGov.
- Earn points by answering surveys.
- Exchange the points earned with cash or gift cards.
It’s as simple as that!
When you sign up, you will answer a few basic questions, such as year of birth, gender, etc. These are to help YouGov select surveys relevant to you. After signing up, you will get your account page where you can see how many points you have, answer surveys, and exchange the points with cash or gift cards. As for gift cards, there are a variety of gift cards to choose from, such as Amazon, Macy’s, Nike, and so on.
The points you can earn per survey vary. In my case, the minimum has been 100 points and the maximum has been 2,000 points. For a 500 points survey, it takes about 8 to 10 minutes to complete.
Tips for earning points fast
- Set Survey Frequency to “As often as possible” or “Weekly” on your Personal Details page.
YouGov allows you to set how often you would like to receive surveys.
I set mine as “As often as possible” and receive 2 or 3 surveys on average a week. The more surveys you take, the more points you earn, and the sooner you get rewards.

- Set Emails and Notifications to “Yes, please” on your Permission page.
If you can make it a habit to go to your account page every day to see if there are any surveys, you don’t need to, but if not, I recommend turning on the notifications.
Usually, I set notifications of apps and mail newsletters off. However, I set notifications of YouGov on so that I won’t miss surveys as soon as they are available. - Answer the survey as soon as possible.
When you receive a notification that a survey is available, try to answer it as soon as possible. You do not have to respond immediately, but YouGov seems to send you each survey one by one, so the sooner the better. If you hold answering the survey, they hold sending you new ones as well. - Answer the survey as precisely as possible.
This is the most important. YouGov checks the consistency of your answers. So if they find you just checking boxes randomly, they will stop sending you surveys. After all, they are finding trends in markets and opinion polls, so they want survey results as effectively as possible.

What kind of Surveys does YouGov Offer?
A huge range of surveys, from a new product market poll to TV shows you watched yesterday, AI medical technology research, and political news such as the presidential election.
I find many of the surveys very interesting. One time, there was a survey about being an immigrant in the United States. When I answered that survey, I realized that my opinion did matter even as a minority. It made me feel that my voice was being useful to society.
Many surveys YouGov offers reflect a variety of recent events in the world (mostly in the country you reside in), so you also get to learn what’s happening out there. I think this is a bonus benefit besides earning money and expressing your opinions.
